The purpose and description of our climate target

Housing accounts for a large proportion of the total energy consumption in Sweden and is a significant contributor to Sweden’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Moreover, many properties do not live up to the requirements we now have for energy consumption. This is where, as a financier, SBAB can make a major difference.

The basis for meaningful climate work is understanding, measuring and setting goals to reduce our climate impact. At SBAB, we believe that we make the biggest difference by helping our customers in their climate transition. That is why SBAB, in December 2022, adopted a climate target to reduce emissions intensity (kgCO2e per m2) from our lending portfolio with 50% by 2038. The climate target is a major and important step for SBAB in driving the green transition.

By measuring and targeting the emissions caused by our customers’ homes and properties, we can work purposefully to reduce our biggest climate impact – through our financing.
